Chloe’s Guide To The Late Seventies |
|
From XLR8R |
|
For her first mix album, Chloe has recycled the polemical and unexpected name of a track she released in 2002 on the Karat label, "I Hate Dancing". "It’s really sarcastic," says France’s biggest female DJ/producer of the title, "It’s for fun, nothing more. And I very much like to dance! I used to dance a lot in raves and clubs a long time ago and that’s the reason why I wanted this music in my life. Being a DJ is to stay part of the party." Having honed her skills with residencies at Pulp and Elysée Montmartre in Paris and via regular spots alongside the likes of Michael Mayer (in Köln) and Ellen Allien (in Berlin), Chloe’s modernistic Eurocentric mix jacks ‘n’ writhes through tracks by the likes of Superpitcher, Kiki, Lawrence and Robag Wruhme. Nevertheless, Chloe happily acknowledges the influence of musics from three decades ago: "Eno, Bowie and Gainsbourg are the reasons why I’m into music, why I started to dream and why music is such a big part of my life today."
Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon (EMI)
"This album opened my eyes to music. I t goes from rock to psycho rock to acid. It goes so far that it never fails to impress me."
Brian Eno - Another Green World (Eg) & Brian Eno/David Byrne - My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts (Eg)
"Eno influenced me a lot. He’s one of the most significant producers of our age."
Marianne Faithful - Broken English (Island)
"She has the rare ability to transform some lyrics into deep hypnotic atmospheres. I admire artists who take the music to other places that surprise you."
Serge Gainsbourg - Love On The Beat (Mercury France)
"French artist producer, composer and poet from the eighties. He’s a real poet who makes you dream."
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust (EMI) & Low (EMI)
"I was impressed by his personality & his curiosity. I was dreaming a lot because of this. He has the talent to collaborate with the best producers even if they’re not well-known."
